My Mission
I never thought I’d be running for the NC House, but I can no longer sit on the sidelines, watching the decisions being made in Raleigh that affect each one of us. I know we can do better. In Raleigh, I will fight to fully fund our public schools because our teachers and children deserve better. I will work to make healthcare affordable and accessible for families and small businesses. And as a CPA, I will ensure fiscal responsibility with taxpayer dollars. I’m running to restore fairness, opportunity, and common sense for the people of North Carolina.
Let’s work together to build a brighter future for our state.
Get to Know Me
I’m Shelly Headen and I am proud to call Oak Ridge, North Carolina my home. I was born in Western NC where my family settled generations ago. After graduating from Appalachian State University, I started work as an auditor at an international CPA firm. In my years as an auditor, I gained a wealth of knowledge about manufacturing, telecom, nonprofits, and Medicaid.

I raised my three daughters right here in Guilford County. I have spent countless hours organizing school events as Co-Treasurer for the Oak Ridge Elementary School PTSO, tutoring underprivileged children in reading, and shuttling the girls to field hockey, competition dance, and coaching the Oak Ridge Youth Association cheerleading team. As my daughters grew older, I returned to work as a recruiter for local companies in their search for accounting and finance staff. I enjoyed helping others achieve their career goals and using my in-depth knowledge of the accounting field to help others as a career advisor.
I am deeply engaged in my community as a member of the local Lion’s Club where we deliver food to the underserved. Through The League of Women Voters and Guilford for All, I am able to advocate for civic engagement and social equity. As an active member of the Greensboro Builders Association, I aid fundraising efforts for construction industry scholarships.
Make a Contribution
Contributions made to my campaign will help to support my mission to advocate for fair teacher salaries and the investment in our community’s public schools. I plan to fight for affordability in our community, from affordable housing to affordable healthcare. I want to ensure that there is fiscal responsibility and transparency in the use of our taxpayers dollars.
Here’s what I believe:
Public Education
I will fight to restore the investment in our public schools and make sure teachers and staff are paid wages that they deserve.
Affordable Healthcare
Families shouldn’t have to choose between paying the bills and getting care they need to remain healthy.
Affordable Housing
My plan is to make housing more affordable by negotiating more flexible zoning and regulations laws.
Responsibility and Transparency
I believe that tax payer dollars should be spent responsibly and the public has a right to know what their money is being used for.
